He recognized the corolla, stamens, and pistils as essential parts of many flowers, and he is probably the first botanist of the 16th century to feel the necessity for some sort of classification“ (Hunt I, S. 76). – Vorsätze erneuert, letzte Lage vom Block gelöst, etw. wurmspurig (kleiner Bild – und Buchstabenverlust), Bl. 410 und 411 mit Eckabriss (minimaler Textverlust), einige Bl. mit Randschäden (besonders am Beginn) und einzelne Bl. mit Einriss, etw. fleckig, leicht gebräunt.

Third edition of this herbal published in numerous issues from 1539 to 1595. – End papers renewed, last layer detached from the block, some worming (small loss of image and letters), f. 410 and 411 with torn off corner (minimal loss of text), some sheets with marginal damages (especially at the beginning), sporadic sheets with tears, somewhat soiled , slightly tanned. – Damaged, contemporary blind-tooled calf over wooden boards.
